Demystifying The L.A. Private Elementary School Admissions Process

about the private elementary school application process and answer your questions.
The evening will begin with lite fare and networking. This is a great chance to peruse the books and toys at Books & Cookies and find out about their class offerings.
Discussion starts promptly at 7:00 pm.

Christina Simon is the co-author of Beyond The Brochure: An Insider’s Guide To Private Elementary Schools In Los Angeles. Christina received her bachelor’s degree from U.C. Berkeley and a master’s degree from U.C.L.A. She is a former vice president at Fleishman-Hillard, a global public relations firm. Christina is the mom of a 3rd grade son and a 5th grade daughter who attend The Willows Community School in Culver City. Christina served as Co-chair of the Willows School Auction in 2007-2008 and was actively involved in the annual fundraising campaign for several years. Christina’s daughter attended Montessori Shir-Hashirim preschool in Hollywood. Her son attended preschool at A Children’s World on Robertson Blvd. Christina was born and raised in L.A. Jamie Bakal is an educator and native Los Angeleno, who has had her fingers on the pulse of the city’s ever-changing educational environment for the past 15 years. An alumna of Oakwood School, Jamie continued her studies at Boston University and pursued a career in education with the Los Angeles Unified School District. Jamie’s extensive research of private schools, her ongoing visits to schools, and her background in understanding children’s needs provide families with a broad range of experience in education. From elementary through high school, she is committed to helping facilitate each family in finding the most suitable educational environment for their child. In her 5 years as an educational consultant, Jamie has placed students at schools all over Los Angeles including: Brawerman, Brentwood, Buckley, Campbell Hall, Carlthorp, The Center for Early Education, Crossroads, Curtis, Echo Horizon, John Thomas Dye, Laurence, Oakwood, PS#1, Temple Israel of Hollywood, Turning Point, UCLA Lab School, Village, Westland, Wildwood, and the Willows. Porcha Dodson is the co-author of Beyond The Brochure: An Insider’s Guide To Private Elementary Schools In Los Angeles. Porcha is currently an admissions assistant at St. James Episcopal School in L.A, reporting to the admissions director. Porcha spent 5 years as a teaching partner and director of diversity at the Curtis School in Bel Air, where she also administered admissions testing.
